The Obalufon Royal Dynasty of Ile-Ife, has formally launched the book on "the Obalufon Phenomenon in Ile-Ife and Yoruba History".
The Book Presentation and Launching was held at Oba Sijuwade Memorial Hall, on Thursday, in Enuwa, Ile-Ife.
The book, which explores the historical significance of Obalufon in Yoruba heritage, was unveiled in the presence of esteemed royal fathers, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts.
The Chairman of the occasion, the Elerinmo of Erinmo Ijesa, Oba Odunayo Ajayi, Arowatawa 11, thanked God for the breath of life and appreciated all that graced the occasion.
Oba Ajayi condemned the lackadaisical attitude of some Yoruba's descendants that didn't know the history of their origin, opine for positive changes soonest.
In his welcome address, Prof. Muib Opeloye, Asiwaju Obalufon Royal Dynasty, said that the history of Obalufon cannot be found in any literature text.
Opeloye emphasised that Ife particularly has not been putting on the history and if we don't write the history, we'll forgotten them, Obalofon history is putting together for all and sundry.
Also, Prof. Adebusola Adepoju, the Chairperson, Local Organising Committee, said that they were celebrating the legacy that Obalufon left behind, he's a legend in Ife history and a deity to be recognised.
Adepoju stated that the descendants trying to project the cultural heritage of Obalufon by putting his life story and different activities in terracotta,legendary work, bead making together.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, the Provost of the Postgraduate College at Osun State University and Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, thanked God for given gift of lives to all and sundry.
Oyeweso, in his speech highlighted the book's academic value and its role in preserving Yoruba heritage and commended Ooni for his fatherly role played in writing the history.
He said that book is written by four scholars of our time, Prof Adisa Ogunfolakan, Prof. Muib Opeloye, Prof. Abimbola Adesoji and Prof. Saka Opeloye.
The book stated about the glass making industry in Ile-Ife, terracotta, nationalisation of Ile-Ife and Yoruba culture, charged the citizenry to document the history of Ile-Ife so that history will not be lost.
"Our fore-fathers have contributed their quota in writing history, among the six families of Obalufon, Ajilesoro family were in charge of glass making industry, but there's no one in that lineage again.
"But Obalufon family in Ghana are the one in glass making industry, Ife has a lot to do on history writing, recollected that Late Prince Ademakinwa, Late M.A. Fasogbon, and Late Odole Atobase had documented the history". He explained
He charged other families to write their compound history before none indigenes will write wrong history about them.
The book was reviewed by Professor Gbenga Fasiku, Director of the Institute of Cultural Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, alongside Professor Adebusola Adepoju, Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee for the event.
Their analyses provided deep insight into the book’s scholarly contributions and cultural significance, declaring that the legacy of Obalufon remains a cornerstone of Ife and Yoruba civilization.
The event was enriched by captivating cultural performances, adding a traditional flair to the historic gathering.
