The Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has charged freshers to be diligent to their studies as well as shun cultism and other social vices.
Bamire gave the charge during the Matriculation Ceremony for 2023/2024 academic session of the prestigious University, at OAU Amphitheatre Hall, on Friday, in Ile-Ife.
He appreciated God for given them the opportunity of admission to the University amidst over 40,000 that sat down for the institution's POST-UTME.
The VC commended Federal Government for making provision for students loan to ease their financial constraints as well as alumni, stakeholders, groups and individuals for their support.
Bamire congratulated the new students, admonished them to face their studies squarely and work against anything that can disrupt the smooth academic session of the institution.
He enjoying them to have good determination by working hard so as to justify their admission.
The VC urged them not to allow a minute to waste, but should use their time judiciously and judicially for greater achievement.
Bamire admonished new students to balance their academics with culture and good character, for "charity begins at home".
The Vice-Chancellor explained that OAU has zero tolerance for examination malpractices, cultism, sexual harassment, and all forms of other social vices.
He advised them to shun bad gangs either on campus or outside that can corrupt their good manner for them to safeguard their studentship and to have outstanding success at the end of the race.
"Whenever you are facing any challenges on campus, try to channel the appropriate quarters for a way out.
"This institution has standard ICT and Research centre for your education, strive to utilize the opportunity for betterment future". He counselled.
The Vice-Chancellor promised adequate provision and conducive environment for their learning, assured them of hundred per cent safety, saying that there are sanction for misconduct and act of indiscipline.
Bamire applauded their parents for the sacrifices made to ensure the success of their children, admonished them to continuing praying for their wards success.
He pledged that the management will use all in his capacity to ensure their safety as well as guarantee their outstanding success.
