Land agent docked over allegedly fraud N1.4m

A 63-year-old man, Olajide Dauda, on Monday, docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court over allegedly fraud N1.4 million.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Jimoh Irewole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in Jan. 2024 around 12:30 on at Ilupeju Area, Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Governemnt Area of Osun.


Irewole said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.4 million from one Adebisi Adeyemi with pretence of selling six plot of lands for him along Ode-Omu Road, Ipetumodu.

He added that the defendant converted the sum of N1.4 million of Adebisi Adeyemi of the sold land to his own use.

According to him, the offence contravened sections 383,390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to two-count charge of fraud and wrong convertion.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal term, promised that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate O.B. Adeduwura granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like amount.

Adeduwura said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and their addresses to be verified by the Prosecutor.

She stated further that the two sureties must jointly deposit N1.million with the court as well as be a tax payer by produce tax certificate with three recent passport photographs.

The case was adjourned until Feb 3 for mention at Ipetumodu Magistrates' Court.
