The Police in Osun on Wednesday, arraigned cattle rearer , Mohmodu Abubakar, 25, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court for allegedly setting fire on cash crops farm worth N12 million.
The Prosecutor, Insp.Jimoh Irewole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.12, 2025 around 2:00 pm at Isaasa Area along Ode-Omu Road, Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Governemnt Area of Osun.
Irewole said that the defendant willfully and unlawfully set fire on cocoa, plantain and palm tree plantation that valued N12 million, property of one Salawu Ganiyu.
He added that the defendant forcefully entered into cocoa, plantain and palm tree plantation with his cattle and damaged plantain farm that worth N500,000, property of one Salawu Ganiyu.
According to him, the defendant unlawfully and willfully rear his cattle to entered and damaged plantain farm that valued N500,000 that belongs to Salawu Ganiyu.
The Prosecutor explained that the offence was contrary to section 2(1) of forcefully entering and illegal occupation of landed property (Prohibition), Osun, 2019.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of: unlawful, forceful and damage.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Kose Adewole, applied for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal term, pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would produce responsible sureties.
Magistrate O.B. Adeduwura granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like amount.
Adeduwura said that the sureties must resides within the court jurisdiction, produce three years tax clearance certificate and their addresses should be verified by the Prosecutor.
She added that the sureties must present photocopy of NIN for identification with three recent passport photographs of sureties and defendant.
The case was adjourned until Feb 3 for mention at Ipetumodu Magistrates'Court.
