Two Scavengers Appears In Court Over Alleged Shop Breaking, Stealing


The two Scavengers, Adamu Ismail, 20 and Sanni Ibrahim, 23, on Thursday, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on May 24, 2024 between 12:00 am and 06:00 am at opposite the Polytechnic Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendants conspired together to commit felony by breaking the shop of one Adegboyega Taiwo.

He adding that the defendants cartered away his one complete Rolltor engine that valued N400,000, one Tiger Generator that worth N120,000; one Grander Machine that attract N35,000 and one Burfing machine that valued N60,000.

According to him, the defendants also stole one Pasun generator that valued N370,000, two block making vibrator machine that worth N536,000 and one Breaker board valued N50,000, properties of Olusegun Ibukun.

The Prosecutor explained further that the defendants on May 24, 2024 around 02:00 pm at OlaOluwa Street, Ile-Ife,  unlawfully in possession of two block making vibrator machine, one Pasun generator.

Osanyintuyi stated that the defendants theft one complete painter Rolltor engine, one grander and some quantity of cable wires which cannot give satisfactory account of.

The Prosecutor said that the defendants on May 27, 2024 between 12:00 am between 12:00 am to 6:00 am at opposite the Polytechnic Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, broke the shop of one Adegboye Taiwo.

He stated further that the defendants maliciously damaged the rear screen glass of a Toyota Venza car with Reg.No: YAB 516 DP which valued N100,000 which was under repair at the shop of one Adegboye Taiwo's that was broken.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to six-count charge of: conspiracy, intent to commit felony, shop breaking, stealing, unlawful possession and malicious damage.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Philip Fasanmoye, pleaded for the bail of the defendants in most Liberal term, pledged that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.

Magistrate Taofeek Badmus granted the bail of the defendants in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like amount.

Badmus adding that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction, address must be viable verify by the prosecutor.

He stated further that the sureties must present original certificate of three years tax clearance, deposit N50,000 with court which would return to the defendant at the end of the case.

The Magistrate adding that the defendants should attach the National Identification card or driving license to the bail bond.

Meanwhile, he ordered for the remand of the defendants in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service pending the perfection of their bail.

Magistrate Badmus adjourned the case until July 11, for hearing.
