OAUTHC NARD Sets to go on Two-Week Warning Strike over Unpaid Salary

The  President, Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex(OAUTHC), Ile-Ife  Chapter, Dr Anthony Anuforo,  has stated that the association is set to go on  two-week warning strike from Tuesday 18th July over unpaid salary and allowances.

Anuforo and his General Secretary, Dr Enesi IbukunOluwa, made this known in a Communique issued and signed at the end of the Emergency General Meeting(EGM) of NARD OAUTHC, on Friday and made available to Pressmen on Monday.

Anuforo said that the meeting was deliberated to appraise critical welfare issues affecting its members, adding that the EGM was attended by over 100 doctors across different departments and cadres.

He explained that the EGM observed that the ARD OAUTHC had earlier issued a two-week ultimatum to the management on 5 June, 2023 to resolve the crisis involving unpaid four to seven-months salaries of about 40 members.

The President expressed that the ultimatum was further extended with great restraint, by two weeks starting from 30 June, 2023.

He lamented that despite given the hospital management ample time in the interest of peace to act and resolve these issues, there seems to be no end in sight.

According to him, the payment of other cadres of newly employed staff persists with members still owed salaries.

Anuforo stated that the OAUTHC management has also not made sufficient effort in addressing the backlog of various outstanding allowances including COVID 19 allowance, outstanding Hazard allowance, upgrade arrears, update course refunds amongst others.

The President emphasised that the ARD OAUTHC has exhausted all peaceful means to resolve the crisis.
