Solicitor Advocates for Digital Literacy in Judiciary


The Principal Partner, ABI LEGAL Barristers & Solicitors, Mrs Abimo Olayiwola, has advocated the need for digital literacy in the Judiciary sector in order to enhance operational performances and also empowers next generation lawyers.   

Olayiwola stated this at a day maiden submit organised by the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA) Young Lawyers ' Forum (YLF) at Oak park , ICT Building, Obafemi Awolowo University ( OAU ) on Thursday in Ile-Ife , Osun . 

The theme of the submit is entitled : " Digital Economy and the Legal Profession ".

While Speaking at the event , she said that the need for young lawyers to build on online portfolios for good digital footprints in their jobs becomes paramount. 

Olaiwola said young lawyers must develop themselves on e-business infrastructure , e - legal business and professional interactions in order to succeed in the noble profession . 

"Clients are now looking for legal solution online through digital means which tend to earn lawyers more opportunities.

"We should be able to use our basic digital kits to make our profession flexible . The digital age has really make things easier for young lawyers compared to those old days ," Olaiwola said.

According to her , the need to enlighten more lawyers on digital legal practise will help checkmate the issue of fake digital lawyers online.

Also, Mr Afam Osigwe ( SAN) , told participants that block chain technology and Artificial Intelligence ( AI) has helped to facilitate connectivity and also smoothing digital legal practise worldwide.

Osigwe said digital technolog has succeeded in facing out the old order by bringing- in unimaginable opportunities which comes with various testimonies and unprecedented light ups. 

He said that the benefits in digital practise were enormous which cannot be comparable to the old order and can be seen in the legal profession in some quota.

According to him , young lawyers legal professionals must embrace digital mood of rendering services to their clients for easy interactions.

Earlier , the chairman of the event , Mr Adeyemi Adetise , charged young lawyers to put themselves on a good wheel digital practise through hardwork and commitment which would help them achieved a lot . 

Adetise , a lawyer and digital expert said that the maiden edition would further open the eyes of young lawyers to digital opportunities in ICT and also make them excel through professional interactions.    

According to him, the digital economy is a world of digital computing that describes how traditional brick-and-mortar legal activities are being transformed by ICT. 

" The legal profession is moving digital especially using ICT in courts , tribunals and other judiciary engagement. 

Also, Mrs Modupe Olufemi , Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA) , Ile-Ife branch , , commended the organisers of the programme for re-opening the eyes of lawyers on regutionalising how legal business can be carried out using ICT. 

Olufemi charged young lawyers in Ile-Ife to tapped into the digital legal practice for top of the light engagement with clients. 

Mr Kehinde Awosusi, the President of Young Lawyers Forums , Ile-Ife, thanked all participants including notable digital experts for honouring the event.

Awosusi, however , urged all young lawyers across the state to build themselves on digital platforms that would help in promoting their businesses.

Special awards were presented to some YLF pioneers and notable individuals in the digital field.
