27-year-old man docked for allegedly assault police officer


A 27-year-old man, Taofeek Ahmed, was on Wednesday, docked before an Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court for allegedly assaulted police officer.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 19, 2023 around 4:000 pm at Sabo market, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to caused breach of peace by buying doughnut worth N1,000 from one Afolabi Mary without paying her.

He adding that the defendant assaulted a 17-year-old girl, Afolabi Mary, by slapped her on her left chick when she demanded for the payments of doughnut he bought without paying.

According to him, the defendant snatched a pulse containing the sum of N6,500 from Afolabi Mary.

The Prosecutor stated further that the defendant on June 20, 2023 around 4:20 pm at Sabo Market, Ile-Ife assaulted Sgt Odusina Olawale with F/No/508050, with intent to resist and prevented the lawful arrest by him.

He expressed further that the defendant also assaulted Afolabi Alaba by heating her with his head which resulted to an injury on her right eye and upper lid.

Accordingly, the defendant assaulted one Afolabi Alaba by tearing her naked in public.

Osanyintuyi stated that the offence contravened sections:249(d), 351,355, 356(1), 401 and 402 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded not guilty to six-count charge of: breach of peace, assault, snatching and resist arrest.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi asked the defendant to come with formal application for the consideration of his bail.

Sarumi therefore ordered for the remand of the defendant at Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service pending his bail.

The case was adjourned until July 24, for hearing.
